There’s a strange, almost mystical occurrence–surely you’ve noticed it by now–where Ethan Hawke will stay out of the spotlight for a while, and then every so often–maybe once every few months or so–he’ll come out of the woodwork long enough to say something incredibly strange, dumb, or just downright awful. It’s remarkable, really. And, wouldn’t you know it, he decided to come on out with his awfulness today! Hawke said about Jennifer Lawrence : “I feel sorry for a young actress like Jennifer Lawrence who gets so much success out of the gate, because how are you supposed to develop an appropriate work ethic? How do you push yourself to be better when you get an Oscar for buying breakfast in the morning? It’s the kind of thing one wants to really work for.” Is this jealousy talking? Did Jennifer somehow personally offend him? Or is he just acting like a jerk?
