Kim Kardashian West is perhaps the most controversial woman in America not running for president.
From her reality television stardom to her endless tabloid appearances to her marriage to Kanye West, everyone has an opinion about whether or not she represents the crass commercialization of one’s family and personal life or is instead a role model for modern female empowerment.
Here’s the thing: Kardashian West used to care what you thought about her, but those days are gone. That’s what she told an audience of about 1,000 fans at a public event Tuesday night in San Francisco. When the conversation turned to feminism, and whether or not Kardashian West identified herself by that word, she indicated that the idea is perhaps too strident for her taste. She siad, “I guess people would call me a feminist. But I don’t really like to put labels on things…I do what makes me feel comfortable, and I never say what I’m doing is the right thing.” She added that she liked supporting women personally and in business, but just couldn’t embrace the word feminist.
