We sat down with Jenny Slate, the star of Obvious Child, and the film’s director, Gillian Robespierre to talk about their new rom-com! The first thing we had to know, was how much of the film was improv and Jenny told us, “The standup is based off a standup that Gillian and I created together. I hadn’t really memorized it on purpose, so that it would be natural and a thought pattern.” Obvious Child isn’t like most romantic comedies, and has a non-traditional ending, and Gillian told us, “We always knew we wanted to take sort of the genre of rom-com and sort of flip it on it’s butt. The ending was always going to be these two characters on the couch and we leave them where we found them.” Check out Obvious Child in theaters starting June 13 for more from these funny gals!
