While Boyhood has won an array of awards leading up to Oscar night, it was Birdman that claimed the big prize on the night, picking up the Academy Award for Best Picture. To rub salt in the Boyhood wound, Alejandro G Inarritu stole the Best Director gong from under Richard Linklater’s nose as well.
