Stage actors include Dame Helen Mirren and Carey Mulligan are carrying British hopes at the Tony theatre awards in New York later.
Dame Helen has been nominated for playing the Queen in Broadway transfer of The Audience, while Mulligan has been shortlisted for Skylight. Mirren already has an Olivier Award for the London production of The Audience and an Oscar for portraying the Queen on the big screen.
