Following a jury’s ruling that found Robin Thicke and Pharrell guilty of plagiarism, their attorney has announced that they plan to appeal the decision. “We owe it to song writers around the world to make sure this verdict doesn’t stand,” attorney Howard E. King told Fox Business. “We are going to exercise every post trial remedy we have to make sure this verdict does not stand. We look at it as being in the seventh inning of a game that could go into extra innings.”
Earlier in the week, the jury ruled that Thicke and Pharrell’s song “Blurred Lines” was too similar to Marvin Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up,” and ruled that they pay a total of $7.3 million in damages to Gaye’s family. As for the appeal, Thicke and Pharrell’s team will reportedly argue that while the songs sound alike, they’re structurally different.
