The Theory of Everything was brightest among a very small constellation of highlights from last month’s Toronto International Film Festival, leaving no doubt that Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, who play Stephen and Jane Hawking, will be up for acting Oscars in February. No trailer can do justice to Theory, a must-see on Nov. 7 when it opens, but the second cut from Focus Features does all it can to capture the inspirational story of a brilliant, vivacious physicist who overcomes astounding odds to literally warp our understanding of the universe. How the tragic story of a crippling disease and an equally deteriorating love can be so inspiring is a cosmic mystery, but that’s the magic of movies sometimes.
