Ian McKellen may have played the wizard Gandalf, but it turns out that he turned down the role of Albus Dumbledore after the death of Richard Harris. According to Ian, he was quite content playing his original wizard, and also, right before he died, Richard went on a rant about how bad an actor he thought Ian was.
